Titanium

Titanium (Ti) is a silver-gray metal that is lightweight, high strength, highly corrosion-resistant, and highly heat-resistant.

The characteristics of titanium are as follows:

  1. Lightweight: It is a relatively light metal, weighing about 60% of iron.
  2. High strength: The tensile strength of titanium alloys is about three times that of ordinary steel, and has excellent mechanical strength.
  3. High corrosion resistance: It is stable against acids and salt water and has strong corrosion resistance.
  4. Human-friendly: It is less likely to cause metal allergies and has high biocompatibility.
  5. Low thermal conductivity: It has a lower thermal conductivity than iron, so it does not feel cold when touched.

Titanium is used in a wide range of fields, including aircraft, rockets, and accessories. In the architectural field, it is suitable for buildings on the seashore and in severe weather conditions. Due to its resistance to seawater, it is also used as a bridge, offshore facility, and exterior material. In the industrial field, it is used in equipment such as chemical reaction vessels and piping. For use in the human body, it is used in artificial bones, implant parts, cardiac pacemakers, prosthetic devices, microsurgery, etc. Titanium is divided into two types: high-purity “pure titanium” and “alloy titanium” produced by mixing with other metals. Since each type has different properties, even the same titanium has different characteristics.
